Kinetix, a company that provides on-line insurance quotes, reported Ontario insurance rates had increased 15.2 % in the second quarter of 2010 over the same period last year.

Meanwhile, in Quebec, rates fell 8.2 % in the same period.

In Alberta, auto insurance decreased 0.2%, the fourth consecutive quarter Alberta car insurance decreased.

The Ontario Trial Lawyers’ Association warns reforms to auto insurance in this province may hold the line on costs, but will dramatically reduce the benefits for accident victims. They point to figures from the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) that regulates insurance rates, showing auto insurance rates have soared almost 20% since 2007.
